STORY/SCRIPT ORIGINALITY: 4/5 CINEMATOGRAPHY/EDITING [DIRECTING]: 5/5 CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT [PLOT]: 3.5/5 MUSIC, SOUND, & SCORE: 2/5 ACTING [MAIN CAST]: 3.5/5 REWATCHABILITY & ENJOYMENT: 3/5 PERSONAL RATING: 4/5 24/35 -Has a whimsical nature to it. Surprisingly funny in the first half and has the bones of modern day RomComs -The battle scenes are spectacular for any generation of filmmaking. With more dramatic music and a greater makeup budget, this would be remembered as the archetypal war film -The run time of 144 minutes is a slog at times. I think all the Mary scenes could be removed and it wouldn’t change the end result.

Two young men, one rich, one middle class, both in love with the same woman, become US Air Corps fighter pilots and, eventually, heroic flying aces during World War I. Devoted best friends, their mutual love of the girl eventually threatens their bond. Meanwhile, a hometown girl who's the lovestruck lifelong next door neighbor of one of them pines away.
