Lynn calls Kathy first thing in the morning. She wants her to babysit, but Chris answers the phone and says that Kathy is busy and that they are going out that evening so she will not be able to babysit. Chris was lying because he is taking a client out to dinner, but he doesn't want Kathy associating with Lynn. Joe is pressuring Mark to think about a career. Kathy bumps into Lynn while out walking a horse. She feels embarrassed. Lynn tells her that she has just called on Carol, but Lorraine hasn't turned up yet. Seth and Archie have cornered Neil about him supplying a pig for truffle hunting. He explains that he doesn't actually own any pigs, but that he could have a word with one of his tenant farmers.

Joe has got a new horse. Kim is touchy when he mentions Neil. Elizabeth finds Frank feeding the trout and warns him not to overfeed them. Kim is secretly meeting Neil. He wants her to spend the night with him. She agrees, but is not happy about deceiving Frank. Archie and Seth are waiting for the pig, Prunella, to start truffle hunting. Lynn catches up with Kathy. Lorraine seems to be watching them. It is pouring down as Seth and Archie walk through the woods with the pig on a lead. Michael finds Joe. He pleads with him to believe that he did not hit him, but Joe tells him to stay away. Seth can't believe it when Frank says that he wants to observe him at work. Elizabeth ignores Michael when she sees him watching her. Alan has a go at Archie and Seth about the truffle hunting scheme.

Lorraine has stayed the night at Lynn's. Michael is curious as to why she is staying. He thinks that she must be pregnant. Lynn can't tell him what the problem is, but asks him to look after Peter for the day. Chris has got the DIY bug again and Kathy is worried. Lorraine is determined to tell the authorities about her father. She threatens to kill her father and still does not want to talk to her mother. Jack complains to Annie about Mark's lazy attitude now that he has started working on the farm. Sarah is pleased when Annie invites her personally to the Emmerdale Farm shareholders meeting.

Lorraine's social worker comes to visit. She and Lynn are worried about Lorraine. Mark asks Annie to bring up his wages at the farm meeting. He wants a rise. Lorraine is pleased to hear that Jenny is safe from her father. Her social worker tells her that she has been very brave. Neil pays Kim a surprise visit. He wants to make sure that she has told Frank about the overnight trip to the horse sale. She casually mentions it to Frank later. Sarah has got a financial projection from the accountant for next year. She is going to present it at the meeting. Lorraine's social worker wants her to speak to her mum as it will help the prosecution

Michael tries to be nice to Lorraine again. She is pretending to be tough, but cannot stop crying. She tells Lynn that she wants to kill her dad. Lynn tries to persuade her that the best way to hurt her father is to talk to her mum and then they can take him to court. Lorraine is still against that. Lynn tells her that she met Pete when she was Lorraine's age and that they were married for six years. Lorraine thought about getting pregnant. Carol is spending her time cleaning to forget about Lorraine. She is surprised to get a phone call from Lynn. Lorraine wants to see her. Carol is stubborn and refuses to go up to Lynn's house.

Kim is slipping off to Harrogate to do some shopping without Frank. Carol turns up at Lynn's and worries that other people will find out about her ex-husband. She wonders why Lorraine has not come home now that they have made up. Neil arrives at Home Farm to see Kim. They were obviously going to meet in Harrogate, but Neil says that he could not wait to see her. Nick interrupts them. Kim tells Neil that she hates having to lie to Frank as he is so trusting. Neil points out that there is nothing to lie about yet. Carol tells Lynn that she feels so sorry for Lorraine and would willingly kill Derek. Robert tells Annie that he always wants to live on the farm. Eric and Elizabeth are finding it hard to adapt to living together. Michael meets Mark in the village and asks him to go for a drink with him.

Archie is panicking because he is expecting a visit from an inspector from Social Services who is checking him out as a registered childminder. Nick makes fun of him. Carol calls up to Lynn's with a present for Lorraine. She asks Lorraine about coming home, but she isn't ready yet

Kim makes a fuss of Frank before she leaves for her trip with Neil. Mark storms into the farm kitchen and confronts Jack and Sarah as they have already put an advert in the local paper for the cottage. He will not see their point of view. Eric checks to see that Elizabeth will be around in the afternoon. She suggests that they go out for the afternoon. Eric stalls her. Alan visits Carol at home; they are awkward with each other at first. She becomes aggressive when she thinks that Lynn has told Alan all about Lorraine. He assures her that he knows nothing.

It is the day of the treasure hunt between Rachel, Sangeeta and the students next door. Sangeeta answers the door and gets soaked by a water pistol. It is the morning after for Kim and Neil. They want to see more of each other from now on. Kim suggests that they stay on for another night. Michael is going to be a beater for Seth and is grateful for something to do. Sangeeta chucks a bucket of water over someone who knocks on the front door. It turns out to be Mark. Rachel laughs. Jack has cut his hand because he was not concentrating on his work. He is thinking about Annie's demands for money. The only thing he can think of is selling some land. He will not consider selling the farm

Jack has another go at Mark for not working hard on the farm. It is Seth and Archie's birthday. Nick gives Archie a card from him and Alice, but Archie is not keen to celebrate. Rachel visits the farm and brings Sangeeta with her. Mark shows her round. Archie is in a terrible mood and refuses to eat Nick's cooked breakfast - he is fasting so that he can sympathise with starving people.

Jack is looking rough as he is having to do Mark's work as well. Annie is due back tomorrow. Archie is starting his childminding course soon. He has finished his famine for now. Kim comes back to the stables to find Neil there as a surprise. He wants her to find a couple of suitable mounts for the sons of some friends of his, the Drinkwaters. They kiss in the stables, but Kathy comes back and they have to move apart quickly. Elizabeth suggests to Eric that they start a joint account to pay for household bills. He seems a bit reluctant. Frank sees Kim and Neil together. She is telling him that she cannot stop thinking about him

Jack takes Sarah a cup of tea in bed. She is amazed to see his black eye and wonders what Annie will make of it all. Kathy tries to wriggle out of the dinner date with Frank, Kim and Neil that evening but Chris still wants to go. Elizabeth is worried about Tinker as she is missing again. Eric is going to pay the electricity bill, but Elizabeth tells him that she has already paid it. She wants to open up a joint bank account, but Eric still seems reluctant for some reason. Joe explains to Mark that the farm is in terrible trouble and that is why Jack is so grumpy. He asks him to help out more and not talk about money so much.

Sarah tells Annie that Jack did not sleep last night. Annie thinks that Jack is avoiding her and should face up to the problem. Sarah loses her temper with Annie because of her lack of thought for Jack. He has no option but to sell the farm if she really wants her share bought out. Elizabeth is determined that Eric should sell the spitfire. Tinker has strayed again. Annie tells Sarah that perhaps the farm is going to go bankrupt anyway so isn't it better if Jack sells now. Sarah tells her that she should talk to Jack if that is how she feels. Lorraine is not pulling her weight at Lynn's. Carol hands her notice in at The Woolpack because she can no longer face anyone. She thinks that everyone knows about her problems with Lorraine. Kim tells Kathy that she is going off to see a client. They both know that she is going to meet Neil

Frank is driving one of the lorries because Chris is a driver short. He is going to Edinburgh so Kim plans a day Christmas shopping with Neil. Annie is full of cold, she blames waiting up half the night for Jack to speak to her. Sarah just wants her to tell Jack that she has changed her mind. Annie is being stubborn and wants Jack to be reasonable first before she will speak to him. Sarah dares to tell her that she is pig headed. Lynn is fed up with Lorraine treating her house like a hotel. Michael is going to try and get a job with a local poultry packer. Carol has come back to work at The Woolpack. She is grateful to Alan for giving her another chance. Lynn tries to speak to Lorraine about pulling her weight around the house. Michael is despondent because he did not get the job.

It is the day of the Home Farm shoot and Mark is helping out. Jack is in a mood because the tractor has broken down and it will be expensive to repair. He finds time to ask about Annie. She is in bed with bronchitis. Bill Middleton tries to explain to Mark that he is a second class citizen at the shoot. Sarah starts to panic when she realises that Annie will now be at home for Christmas and she will therefore taste Sarah's pudding. Rachel is home. She tells Sarah about Jayesh. Eric asks Archie to take a look at his car. He even offers to babysit Alice for him. Alan is furious when he finds Archie mending the car in The Woolpack car park. He tells him to move on. Councillor Chapman has managed to get The Malt Shovel's application for a reduction in their business rate moved off this month's agenda. Alan wants to get his own application in first. He decides to let Archie stay in the car park so that it looks good.

Robert is telling jokes at the breakfast table. He is in the school nativity play and wants to get some practice in. Mark doesn't laugh. Michael finds a sink full of filthy plates at Lynn's. Lorraine was meant to do them. She is nasty to him. Jack has saved a dirty beck for Mark to clear out at Keller Bottom. Rachel has brought Jayesh home to meet the Sugdens. Kim and Neil are having a conversation in the stables. Nick walks in and makes them jump. Neil spills boiling hot coffee all over his trousers and has to drop them in front of Nick. Jayesh gets on well with everyone. Rachel shows him round the farm. Joe is depressed because everyone seems to be fixed up romantically except him.

It is the day of Michael's committal hearing. Elizabeth has taken time off work especially to accompany him, but Michael does not want any fuss. He asks her not to go. Jack is refusing to stop working and take a break. Mark thinks that handing in his notice was the best decision he has made. Amos has come to stay at Emmerdale Farm. Robert tries one of his jokes out on him, but Amos doesn't get it. Archie checks that his double date with Nick is still on, he has even arranged the babysitter. Michael is nervous about seeing Steve and the others in court. Sarah and Amos talk about Leonard. They are secretly arranging for him to come to the farm for Christmas. Eric is looking at swish cars to buy when Elizabeth shows him a newspaper advert for a small family saloon.

It is the morning after Nick and Archie's double date. Nick pretends to a disappointed Archie that he really liked Lindsay. Amos lets slip to Jack that he and Sarah are planning a surprise for Annie at Christmas. Sarah just tells Jack that an old friend is coming to stay. She does not tell him that it is Leonard. Lorraine asks Michael what he gets up to at night. She is teasing him because she knows that he has been slipping out and breaking his curfew. Michael just says that he stays in his room and reads. Jack has been kept waiting on a country road by a tanker. When Frank Tate drives up, he takes his anger and frustration out on him. Amos tries to explain to Sarah how Annie must be feeling now about asking for money for her last few years. She puts over Jack's point of view.

Mark is having time off to go to Leeds and show off his new car to Rachel. Jack teases him about its condition. Elizabeth is still giving Eric a hard time about selling the car to Mark. Chris suggests to Kathy that they invite Frank and Kim over for a meal. Kathy is non-committal. She then tells Chris that she is planning to resign from her job with Kim after Christmas. Chris wants to know why. Jayesh has recovered from his attack. Robert is still telling jokes even though he has done his play. Jack wants to know what surprise Sarah is planning for Annie. Michael finds Lorraine stealing from Lynn's purse. The Spitfire breaks down. Jack has noticed that a couple of the doors have dropped in the farmhouse. Joe visits. He tells Jack that Frank is willing to cover the cost of the loss of his milk yield. Jack accepts begrudgingly. They both still think that Leonard is a conman.

Jack is furious with Sarah for inviting Leonard to stay over Christmas. He is convinced that Leonard is a con man and that he has pressured Annie into asking for her share of the farm. Sarah makes him promise that he will be polite to Leonard for Annie's sake. The doors are still sticking at Emmerdale. Lorraine heard Michael go out again last night. Kim tries to involve Kathy in the running of the stables. Kathy is short with her and tells her to ask Neil's advice. Frank interrupts them. He is popping into Hotten, but is anxious not to miss Zoe ringing from the airport as she is due home. Kathy feels sorry for Frank as he is really looking forward to Christmas. Elizabeth is still not really talking to Eric and he gets annoyed. He admits that he will do basically anything for money and they row. Lindsay is keen on Archie. She has made a special effort to come over and see him. Michael visits his mum and asks about Christmas.

Michael is trying to thumb a lift home. Annie is looking very perky. Sarah teases her about Leonard. He then telephones and she giggles like a schoolgirl on the phone. Jack doesn't like to see his mother behaving like this. Seth is fixing up a banner outside The Woolpack advertising the Christmas meal. Alan notices Michael arriving back in the village in a van. Zoe calls on Archie. She tries to mix trouble between him and Lindsay by flirting with him. Lorraine makes a surprise visit to see Carol. She has made her a home made Christmas card. Carol then ruins things by talking to her about Christmas. Amos and Leonard have a walk.

It is Christmas morning. Jack calls at Amos's cottage to see Leonard. Amos worries that he is there to cause more trouble. Kathy finds Kim staring into space - she is thinking about her situation. She tries to make Kathy feel sorry for her as she is torn between two men but Kathy has little sympathy. Peter Whiteley is overloaded with presents. Lorraine feels a bit neglected. Jack apologises to Leonard. He tries to explain that he was just offering advice and offers more if Jack needs it. Carol is opening her presents on her own, but then Lorraine visits. She has made Carol a jewellery box. Presents are unwrapped at Emmerdale. Annie has bought Sangeeta a brooch.

It is Boxing Day. Frank is drinking again and Zoe has stayed up all night with him. Chris and Kathy have also stayed at Home Farm. Kim is with Neil and seems quite happy. She encourages Neil to go to the Boxing Day Hunt at Robblesfield. Mark asks Sangeeta to go to the hunt with him. Rachel overhears and decides to go along and distribute her anti-hunt leaflets. Chris finds that Frank has passed out on the sofa. He removes some empty bottles, but Frank wakes up and gets violent. He pushes Chris out of the way and staggers out to his car.

Chris rings Zoe up for a progress report on Frank. She is fed up that she might have to spend New Year's Eve alone at Home Farm. Kathy is short with Chris and seems to have made plans to avoid him. Sarah asks Joe for all the gossip on Kim and Frank. She is busy trying to think of ways to make money for the farm - llamas, maggots. Michael sees Rachel in the village. She is waiting for Jayesh to arrive from Leeds. He declines her offer of a drink and watches them walk off together. Rachel still suspects Michael of being the prowler. Frank is sober. He asks Chris for a progress report on the businesses. Chris has nothing to tell him. Frank is obviously not going ahead with the partnership with Neil in the model farm now, but is still considering the driving range as a solo venture.
