Verity2026

6.5 🥨

This film should have stayed as a book. Nice plot twists and message of how you can manipulate the truth, but the structure of the movie just feels so much better as a book… and I haven’t even read it! Dakota Johnson awful as always. They even had to justify her acting in one of the dialogues.

Forgotten Island2026

6.0 🥨

This movie has a stunning animation, beautiful designs and a lot of creativity, but the whole script is just trash. A big letdown for me, I don’t get how people are giving this film scores around 8-9. I haven’t cringed this hard watching something since Secret Life of Pets 2.

The Devil Wears Prada 22026

6.5 🥨

I haven’t watched the first one soooo… yeah… Movie tries to be smart, but it’s just not telling you what it’s going to do next so that you don’t expect a new plot twist. It seems Andy forgot she wanted to be a journalist by the end of the film. Nigel’s storyline was pretty neat. And the film’s entertaining all the way through.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day2026

Last week I was left disappointed with Tom’s performance in Odyssey. This week he absolutely blew it. In a brand new way. Brand New Day is the street-level story we have long been waiting to see from Spiderman on the big screen, and it’s one of the most beautiful and engaging live action Spiderman films since TAS2. The web swinging, the action sequences, the fights, score, designs and all of its photography are A-tier. We finally get a more mature acting for Peter Parker and a nice performance from Zendaya and Jon Bernthal. The movie feels long though. There’s several moments that feel like they’re dragging the pacing, some writing decisions and plot-twists that you can see coming or just don’t make a lot of sense (for example Peter not realizing that the big evil corporate guy is lying to him). Some random notes: * Some characters just come and go, like Scorpion and Bruce Baner. * The scene with MJ finding the letter just feels like a puzzle piece that you found too early. * Also, the scene of Aunt May’s speech is… not as impacting honestly. There’s zero connection there to Jean Grey’s character and the scene only becomes emotional once Spiderman sits next to her. And while as a Spiderman fan it was nice to get a film that references not only past movies but comic books as well, the movie doesn’t try to give fan-service moments and instead focuses on being its own thing, which I really respect. My favorite Tom Holland Spiderman movie to date.

Pride & Prejudice2005

My girlfriend made me watch it and, I have to admit it, it is good. The production team just makes an amazing job making you believe you are living in the 1800s and along the whole Bennet family. I really felt as if I were reading a book all around. A beautiful adaptation, a stellar cast and a very beautiful story. I only wish the movie didn’t end so abruptly. That first party song slaps though.

The Odyssey2026

9.2 🥨

Christopher Nolan has done it again. A great retelling of Homer’s classic story, with beautiful cinematography, score, sound mixing, design, editing and pacing all around. The film might be 3 hours long, but you really don’t feel them. There’s some amazing performance from Matt Damon, as well from Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, John Leguizamo and Samantha Morton, who will all be fighting for that best suporting actor/actress award. The journey of Odysseus was really brought to screens as a beautiful masterpiece by the whole team. I only have a few notes: Tom Holland is the weak link of the whole cast. He still has to walk away from his ‘Peter Parker acting 101’ and push for something different, seeing him acting along Pattinson really shows his inferior level. Athena and Calypso are just not used as well nor do we get time to really explore or, get SOMETHING from them. There’s also a few thing left out, like the Cyclops speaking, the last test for Odysseus and Aeolus being left out, but come on the movie’s three hours long already. My biggest congrats for the team!

Toy Story 52026

8.0 🥨

There was really no need for a fifth one, let’s be honest. Then again, Pixar managed to produce a heartfelt, entertaining and actually engaging installment for the franchise. Jessie becomes the lead for this one and her character is very well explored and developed, even when her whole arc is basically a redo of Toy Story 2. The rest of the toys though… are really pushed sideways and we don’t get to connect with them at all (except for the new ones). We get a nice story with Bonnie, that’s pretty cool. And I can see kids connecting, laughing and replaying with this film without getting annoying Soundtrack is nice, animation is nice but the whole film just feels like a nostalgia bait, making it feel all around completely unnecesary. Don’t get me wrong, I love Toy Story. But for me it isn’t much better than TS4 nor does it get to the emotional impact that TS3 gave. Pixar, if you’re not letting this franchise die, at least keep caring for it like you just did.

Minions & Monsters2026

8.0 🥨

Finally, a good minions movie. Good ideas and animation all around, the homages to the film industry were all pretty neat and funny. The pacing is good and the movie is thought for the whole family. Not feeling like the “right, this is a kid movie” we’re getting nowadays. The narrator feels really out of place, the story is simple and we spend a lot of time “getting to know” the minions, but I can see the people behind it had a lot of fun doing it. I was going to give it a 7.5, but the Casablanca reference alone deserves an additional half point. First pretzel review baby!
